07060 Nonfiction Reading, Research, Analysis, & Writing for Innovation, Grade 6-7

Dr. Sprecher created this special summer course to teach complex, age-appropriate skills–reading and analyzing nonfiction texts, conducting research and synthesizing ideas, creative brainstorming, and nonfiction writing. The course will center Naomi Klein’s “young readers” text How to Change Everything: The Young Human’s Guide to Protecting the Planet and Each Other, as well as supplementary materials. Students will study the science, history, and sociology of climate change and explore ways they, as developing leaders and thinkers, can contribute to positive change as scientists, engineers, tech innovators, attorneys, writers, artists, policy developers, educators, business heads, and more.
